Web design and development in Heraklion and across Crete

I do web design and development in Heraklion and across Crete. I'm based in Heraklion, and my latest sites on the island are in Kato Gouves, Analipsi in Hersonissos, Heraklion and Chania.

Most businesses in Crete share two audiences: locals all year and visitors in the season. The site has to speak to both, and show up on Google when someone searches from their phone, often already on the island.

Websites I've built in Crete

  • Volta Suites & Villas, Kato Gouves. A new site on Next.js with Payload CMS, in Greek and English, with an in-room breakfast ordering system that sends every order straight to the kitchen.
  • NOMAD slow living, Analipsi, Hersonissos. A seaside hotel and restaurant. Next.js with Payload CMS on its own server: ten pages editable from the admin, and an image library where every photo needs a description (alt text) before it can be uploaded.
  • Dream Events, Heraklion. Wedding, christening and party styling. A site with a filtered gallery, Greek SEO, Google Analytics and Search Console, and a form connected to Brevo.
  • Kokos Rental, Chania. Car rental. Technical SEO on the existing WordPress site, from 34 to 88 on my audit rubric in one working day. What that number does and doesn't measure is in the case study.

Who I build websites for in Heraklion

  • Hotels, villas and rentals. What matters is the path from Google to your booking engine, for bookings without OTA commission. See hotel SEO.
  • Car rentals and tours. Visitors search in English, often on a phone, often at the last minute. The site needs two languages and has to load fast.
  • Local businesses and professionals. Events, food, services. Here it matters that people find you on Google Maps and can call you with one tap.
  • Online shops. Payments through Viva Wallet, shipping with ACS or Box Now. More on the ecommerce website development page.

Your website and Google Maps: how people find you in Heraklion

When someone searches for a service in Heraklion, Google usually shows a map with three businesses above the results. Those spots are decided mostly by the Google Business Profile, not only by the website.

What I do alongside the build:

  1. The same details everywhere.Name, address, phone and opening hours exactly the same on the site, the Google Business Profile and the directories. When they differ, Google doesn't know which to trust.
  2. Structured data. The site tells Google, in a format machines read, who the business is, where it is and what it does.
  3. The right category on the profile. The primary category on your Google Business Profile matters more than most owners think.

One thing I don't do: put keywords in the business name on the profile. You see it a lot on the Heraklion map, but it goes against Google's guidelines for business profiles and can cost you the profile itself.

Web design in Chania, Rethymno and Lasithi

I work across Crete. Kokos Rental is in Chania, and the work was remote like it is with every client. For businesses outside Crete, see web design in Greece.

AI and automation for businesses in Crete

Besides websites, I build AI systems. Chatbots that answer hotel guests in their own language, as on Aroma Suites and Amoopi Nymfes, and systems for back offices, like the one that matches ship machinery to its manuals for Benefit Software. See AI chatbot development and AI automation.

How much does a website cost in Heraklion?

A landing page starts at €800 and an online shop at €4,500, before 24% VAT (€992 and €5,580 with VAT). Anything in between is priced on a quote after a short conversation, because it depends on pages, languages and whether you need bookings or a chatbot. What the market charges, from three Greek price lists, is in web design in Greece: what a website costs.

Web design in Heraklion: how we work

  1. A short conversation
What you do, who looks for you (locals, visitors or both) and what you want a visitor to do: call, book, buy.
  2. A one-page quote
What gets built, what it costs, when it's delivered. Every price before VAT, with the total next to it.
  3. Build on a live preview
You see the site take shape from the first week.
  4. Handover and Google Business Profile
Domain, accounts and code in your name. The site and your Google profile show the same details, word for word.

FAQ

How much does a website cost in Heraklion?

A landing page starts at €800 and an online shop at €4,500; anything in between is priced on a quote, because it depends on the pages, the languages and whether you need bookings or a chatbot. The price doesn't change because you're in Heraklion rather than Athens. My prices are always before 24% VAT, with the total written next to them.

Do you build websites in Chania, Rethymno or Lasithi too?

Yes, across Crete. Kokos Rental is in Chania, Volta Suites in Kato Gouves and NOMAD in Analipsi, Hersonissos. The work is remote, so distance changes neither the price nor the timeline.

Will my business show up on Google Maps?

The website helps, but the map is decided mostly by your Google Business Profile: the right category, the same details everywhere, photos and reviews. I set it up or fix it with you, and make sure the site and the profile say exactly the same thing. Nobody can promise a map position, and anyone who does isn't telling you the truth.

Do you build websites for hotels and rentals in Crete?

Yes, it's the largest part of my work. Volta Suites and NOMAD are hotels in Crete, and Aroma Suites is in Santorini. For the path from Google to the booking engine, see the hotel SEO page.

How long does it take?

Usually 2 to 4 weeks. For a hotel or rental, the best time to launch is the winter, so Google knows the site before spring bookings start.

Who owns the domain and the code?

You do. Domain, accounts and code are in your name from handover, so if you want to work with someone else tomorrow, you take everything with you.
